Just like Christmas morning...better known as Chromebook deployment

Updated: Jan 11, 2019

I have spent the past two days deploying 220 Chromebooks to all our Year 8 and 9s.  This has been a huge task but an exciting task.  Every 40 minutes a new class [9 classes in total] would arrive with excitement and it was like Christmas morning with their faces lighting up with paper and boxes being ripped into.

The deployment was challenging as we enrolled all our Chromebooks onto the College Chromebook Management Console.  We are part of the Diocese of Rockhampton and this Management Console is managed by the Diocese.  The process is an easy step by step process but ensuring all students are doing the right thing and stopping them from jumping ahead was a challenge.  For the first two classes, I started with a Presentation that had the step by step projected for students to see but that when they were jumping ahead.  I stopped that and just guided them verbally with lots of 'stop and listen'.

As a College we chose the Chromebooks because they were affordable (Parents Purchased - BYODD) and supported the Google Apps for Education environment that we launched during 2013.  Each day we learn something new.  We were very lucky that with our purchase we were given free teacher training with a Certified Google Trainer - Mike Reading.  The staff came away very enthused.  In addition, I am providing afterschool GAFE training once per week for our staff.

Energy levels are very high despite teething problems, looking forward to watching the Chromebooks in action.  Here's a great little clip if you have not seen a Chromebook before.
